Our Top New Year’s Resolutions For Speech-Language Pathology in 2019

At Abington Speech Pathology and RemoteSpeech. we are committed to remaining responsive to both our clients’ needs and the industry’s demands.  This commitment has allowed us to look back on 2018 with a fond regard.  While the New Year tends to place a spotlight on our shortcomings, resulting in firm commitments to change, we are resolved to take a different approach.  Our “resolutions” are being placed with our “resolve”, and the things that we will dedicate ourselves to in 2019.  Here are the top items that we look forward to accomplishing in 2019.

1. STAY ON THE FOREFRONT OF THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY

Advancements in technology have played a pivotal role in speech-language pathology for some time. For years, the demand for certified speech-language pathologists has increased, while the job market has struggled to keep up.  These trends have had positive results for the job market (with the speech-language profession consistently being recognized as a leading recommendation for employment), but has had devastating results for the patients who struggle to secure treatment from certified providers.   These trends have been consistent and were the leading forces behind our launch of RemoteSpeech.  We have recognized that effective treatment, (particularly with teletherapy) is increasingly dependent upon technological advancements in communication. Further, tablets, computers, smartphones, smart boards, and more are increasingly being used in speech therapy for a variety of purposes. For 2019, we’ve resolved to continue to align our mission to identifying and implementing leading technologies into our treatment practices.

2. PROVIDE RESOURCES

While our focus has always been to provide treatment as certified providers, our years in this industry has helped us to understand that providing qualified information, at times, can be just as valuable.  We have encountered a deep and pervasive need from every angle of the industry: from parents who want the best for their child’s development and do not know where to begin, adult patients who struggle to regain their ability to communicate, speech-language pathologists who are seeking for outlets to improve their skills and better serve their patients, and even administrators who are struggling to identify and secure qualified options for service.  In our history at Abington Speech Pathology and RemoteSpeech, we know that information is a powerful resource.  For 2019, our resolve will be to share information in response to common queries in public outlets, from our website to seminars, conventions, and events.

3. NETWORK!

At Abington Speech Pathology and RemoteSpeech, we are highly aware of the value in the integration of various contributors to the industry of speech-language pathology.  Leading institutions, such as ASHA, serve as a vital resource for securing service, research, certifications and more, while valuable insights can be gathered from educators, advocacy groups and fellow service providers.  For 2019, our resolve will be to continue to maintain open communication and engagement will all facets of the industry, and to continue to modify our service offerings based upon the insights gained.
We encourage you to start thinking ahead to 2019 with deep consideration about the “resolve” that you can make to make your own contributions to the industry of speech-language pathology.

Wishing you and your loved ones a happy and healthy New Year!
